Local business group expands reach, changes name
Last year local business group Wynnum Business changed its name and expanded its catchment area significantly. The new name for the group is Brisbane Business Bayside.
Wynnum Business formed in 2016 – around 9 months after the previous chamber of commerce for Wynnum – CCIQ Brisbane Bayside (and previously called the Wynnum & Districts Chamber of Commerce) ceased operations after representing the local business community for over 60 years.
Wynnum Business itself grew out of the WynnumCentral project, which was focused on the activation of the retail precinct and oversaw a number of initiatives including a monthly street market, the launch of the WynnumCentral website and the declaration of independence of Wynnum and the formation of the Republic of Wynnum.
The new name reflects the new focus of group which, although it still includes Wynnum (and technically Manly too!), wants to encourage businesses based outside Wynnum and Manly and in the general Bayside area, to join the group and work more closely together, especially in the run up to the Olympic Games in 2032.
