Print news on the Bayside

It doesn’t seem like it was over 5 years ago that the Wynnum Herald print edition stopped being published, but it is.*

At almost exactly the same time the monthly print publication The Community Leader kicked off, joined in early 2024 by a weekly paper – the Bayside Weekly News.**

The Community Leader – which has a Bayside edition and a separate Redlands edition – is widely home-delivered in both these locations, while the Bayside Weekly News (renamed to Redland Bayside News in January) is distributed through Redlands and the Bayside via newspaper racks in high foot traffic areas.

If you grab a copy in Wynnum, you will notice generally only a few stories about Wynnum (or Manly).

The latest edition, July 31-6 August, only features one story specifically connected to Wynnum – the remaining 25 ‘local’* stories are all about the Redlands, and on the Community Noticeboard only 5 of the 19 items were about Wynnum activities. To be fair Wynnum fared a lot better in the What’s On section on page 2 with all of the events bar one Wynnum-based.

A brief conversation today with the editor Andrew Jefferson indicates that the lack of Wynnum coverage may be about to change with the recent appointment of a new journalist who will be looking after Wynnum area stories. Watch this space!
