Creating your new life after divorce

A guest article by Anne Peters from Unclutter Your Life
Has life changed direction unexpectedly? Maybe you’ve found yourself in a different situation than you planned when you were married.
Creating a new life for yourself can be challenging. The suggestions in this article can help you enjoy a fresh, new lifestyle no matter whether you separated recently or years ago.

My name is Anne Peters, I have supported and guided men and women after divorce, or when a loved one has died after a prolonged illness or after a sudden death. My background as an interior designer, Feng Shui consultant and later studying ecopsychology (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecopsychology) and meditation has come together as a simple method to create the life you desire, right now.
Let’s pause. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Take a couple more breaths. Now you can think more clearly. Continue reading.
I help people sort through belongings after loss and change. Starting with your home and your belongings, select one item that you enjoy looking at where you live at the moment. The thing could be a favourite jumper, an ornament, photo, book or a pot plant. This thing has a fond memory attached to it. It may have been a gift, or you purchased it yourself. When you look at it, do you notice you have a pleasant feeling in your body. Imagine surrounding yourself with more things that give you a good feeling.
Keep the things that have good memories for you. For the other belongings you can sell, donate, or put objects in the rubbish that ‘you own’ that remind you of difficult times.
When you open the door to your space and are surrounded by the belongings that you love, you feel lighter, you can breathe and plan for the future and stop living in the past.
When deciding what to do with objects you are not sure about, put in a box, revisit these in 6 months. Return items to your partner they may like to have that you no longer want in your space. Things given to you by family and friends, like a wedding gift that you no longer want can be given back to the person who gave it to you. You don’t have to go it alone. Kids and teenagers can join in and help decide what they want in their room.
You may have belongings that you need to keep from your previous relationship, these can be cleansed by washing, placing in gentle sunlight or moonlight for a few minutes.
